Throwing Ourselves Forward

August 24

I wish I had a picture for this one.  But the camera is lost.  I usually have pretty good sense of whether something is just lost at home or lost abroad.  This feels lost abroad.  Can we all pray for my camera?  Yea,  I'm probably going to have to use the Oldest's camera until I get a new one for Christmas.  Maybe Santa would bring me a big old SLR.  Or at least a new cheapo point and shoot to randomly click at the world around me.

But I digress.

Last night I took the S-Train to the pool.  He spent the entire time on the diving board.  He can finally swim well enough and far enough that he can do this.

He got up the courage to try it Monday at Family Home Evening at the pool.  And that was it.  He was in love.

Last night I was tearing up watching him.  His smile went ear to ear.  His whole body was alive with enthusiasm and joy.  He loved running and throwing himself forward into the unknown. He was doing something new and loving every minute of it.

Once he was in the water, the first thing he would do after he popped back up was turn towards me to see if I'd been watching.  I'd give him a thumbs up and he'd smile and paddle over to the side.

There is a lesson here on both sides.

Throwing yourself into the new and unknown with joyful abandon and confidence.

Encouraging each other with something as simple as our full attention and a thumbs up.

I'm so glad to appreciate the end of summer.  If only it could last longer. . .
