We planned to talk today. I've been having some trouble focusing and organizing my time. (Surprise!) And I thought a little talking it out might help. And, as always, just talking about things helps to focus their place in the world and how much importance I should give to them.
Two things I'm struggling with -
One - prioritizing when there are lots of medium urgency things to do.
The analogy I came up with is this -
It's like there are lots of chicks around me on the floor. They peck a little and cheep a lot. They are a lot of background noise. Everyone once in awhile one runs for the door and must be dealt with, so I feed it and shoo it out the door. One down, hundreds to go.
There aren't necessarily big chickens pecking me to death. But those little guys all together make a lot of noise. And they just won't go away until I deal with them individually.
Which chick to pick first? I've got to start somewhere. But many times I reach down to "deal with" a chick just to be distracted by another. ARRG.
Two - well - yeah. Nevermind. It's really just one thing.
Here is the brilliant insight we taught ourselves as we were talking.
My amazing sister summed it up this way. "I pray a lot for the Lord to help me have the strength to do what I am planning on doing each day. I don't always ask Him what He wants me to do today."
We decided maybe we should do that.
After all, when there is a source of ultimate knowledge in the universe. And He not only knows what needs doing most, but what our capabilities and talents are, and we've been invited constantly to take advantage of that knowledge,
Shouldn't we use it?
(And while we had this great insight, I totally missed the athletic fall sports meeting at the high school. Like it never existed. Dinner and watching the Dick Van Dyke show with the kids after music lessons was way more fun anyway. (Yeah, that's it) Sigh. Oh well. I'll get the forms later.)
